The curtain came down on the eliteVELO Cycle Coaching Summer Cross Series on Wednesday 13th August, with the first cross handicap race in the South West.  Riders were allocated to groups based on ability and previous performances, given a 1/3, 2/3 or full lap advantage on the elite scratch group.  As the action unfolded, Kevan Murphy starting in group 3, caught and passed all the group 4 riders to take the lead.  He was being pursued by Gabriel Cox and Jonny Williams (Group 2).  It wasn't until half distance that the elite group started to make an impression on the rest of the field, lead by Stephen Hodge of Mondraker UK.  However, the lap advantage proved too much for the elite group.  Kevan Murphy held off his chasers, and Jonny Williams (Swansea Wheelers) caught Gabriel Cox (Certini) with 4 laps to go.  Steve Hodgson (MDCC) and Stephen Hodge completed the top 5 finishers overall.
In the Under 12's race, Leon Dawes (Pilgrim Flyers) showed his dominance again, leading from the gun.  Chased by Alex Murphy and Ben Spowart (Pilgrim Flyers) who suffered a bad start.  The Under 8's race was won by Oliver Murphy (son of Kevan Murphy) and followed by his younger brother Toby.  We must extend our thanks to Pilgrim Flyers for their hard work supporting these youngsters and the races, it is great to have an exciting U12's race, nurturing the talent of future generations.
